The Anambra State Police Command has secured a court order remanding a couple, Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and his wife, Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, in a correctional centre over the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the suspects were arraigned after preliminary investigations into the case, which sparked public outrage following the circulation of videos and reports of the victim on social media.

According to the police, the swift intervention of residents, who provided timely information, led to the rescue of the child and ensured he received immediate medical attention, while the suspects were arrested and charged.

In a related development, the Command has launched an investigation into a suspected child trafficking case after operatives attached to the Awada Divisional Headquarters rescued a 37-year-old woman, identified as Anurika, from an angry mob at Divine Mercy Hospital along Eze Iweka Road, Awada, Obosi.

Police said the suspect allegedly gained access to the hospital on June 23, 2026, disguised as a nurse and was seen secretly recording videos of newborn babies in the maternity ward.

Hospital staff became suspicious and questioned her about her identity. Although she reportedly claimed to be an employee of the hospital, management later confirmed that she was not a member of staff.

The suspect was subsequently taken into protective custody and is assisting investigators in identifying other individuals who may be linked to the alleged child trafficking network.

The police assured the public that investigations into both cases are ongoing and promised to provide further updates as they become available.
