The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged murder and robbery of a family at Oloba village in Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.
The suspects, identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of the community, were allegedly involved in an attack on the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children on September 22, 2026.
According to the police, the suspects invaded the family’s home armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.
They allegedly carted away N200,000 in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine during the attack.
The police alleged that Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward attacked his wife, hitting her on the head.
The suspects were also accused of tying two of the children by their hands and legs before throwing them into a nearby river.
The police said the remaining members of the family were also killed and their bodies dumped in the river.
The Command said detectives commenced an investigation after receiving credible intelligence about the incident on October 2.
Following the investigation, the three suspects were arrested and allegedly confessed to their involvement during interrogation.
Police said the family’s Boxer motorcycle was recovered from the suspects, alongside the locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and the club allegedly used during the attack.
The remains of the woman have since been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remains of the other victims.
The suspects and the case file are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered a thorough investigation into the case and assured that anyone found culpable would face the law.
