A shooting at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Dallas on Wednesday left one person dead and two others wounded, officials have confirmed.
The Dallas Police Department said the suspected gunman fired on the facility from the roof of an adjacent building before turning the weapon on himself as officers closed in. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem later confirmed that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“While we don’t know the motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop,” Noem wrote on X.
According to local station Fox4, all three victims were ICE detainees. ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan told Fox News that no ICE officers were injured in the attack.
“We’ve seen a lot of violence at ICE facilities, and this is not the first time this year,” Sheahan said, describing the trend as “deeply troubling.”
Vice President JD Vance also condemned the incident, calling it an “obsessive attack on law enforcement” and purging wand an end to violence against ICE.
ICE, which enforces US immigration laws and deportations, has been at the center of political controversy in recent months as the Trump administration intensifies efforts to expel millions of undocumented migrants. Earlier this year, mass immigration raids in Los Angeles prompted protests, leading President Donald Trump to deploy National Guard and Marine units to the city.
The Dallas shooting comes amid a series of violent incidents targeting immigration enforcement facilities. In July, attackers struck an ICE center in Alvarado, Texas, leaving a police officer wounded. Days later, a 27-year-old man opened fire with an assault rifle at a US Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, injuring two officers and a Border Patrol employee before being shot dead.
Federal investigators are now probing the Dallas gunman’s motive.
