The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, 43-year-old Jamila Adamu, during a domestic incident in Bauchi.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at about 4:05pm at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the police spokesman, the incident came to the attention of officers at the C-Division, Bauchi, following information about a domestic altercation involving the two women.
Habib said preliminary investigations indicated that Hauwa’u, the second wife, allegedly picked up a pestle and struck Jamila, the first wife, on the forehead.
He said the impact caused Jamila to lose consciousness.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, one Hauwa’u Haruna, 33 years old, allegedly acting under hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, one Jamila Adamu, 43 years old, on the forehead. Consequently, the victim fell unconscious,” the statement said.
Following the report, detectives from the C-Division reportedly mobilised to the scene, where they documented the incident and commenced preliminary investigations.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention.
However, Habib said a medical doctor later certified Jamila dead, while her remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The police said Hauwa’u was arrested in connection with the incident, while the pestle allegedly used in the attack was recovered and retained as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The commissioner also condoled with the deceased’s family and warned members of the public against domestic violence.
He further urged families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for members experiencing mental health challenges.
