The Bayelsa State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the abduction of Justice E.J. Umokoro, a judge of the Bayelsa State High Court, in Yenagoa, the state capital.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the judge was allegedly kidnapped on Saturday evening at a fast food outlet in the Ekeki area of the city.
“Justice Umokoro was abducted from his vehicle while waiting at a fast food restaurant. Tactical teams and drones have been deployed to track down the perpetrators and secure his release,” Mohammed stated.
Sources told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the assailants fired shots into the air in the parking lot before dragging the judge from his car into a waiting Toyota Hilux.
The judge was reportedly at the location waiting for his daughter, who had gone inside the restaurant to make a purchase when the incident occurred.
