At least four people have been killed after gunmen attacked the Sabon Angwa community, around Bet/Zat in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 8pm on Thursday when the assailants invaded the community and opened fire on residents despite an existing curfew imposed in parts of the state to curb insecurity.
A resident of Barkin Ladi, Bulus Jok, who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen shot indiscriminately, targeting anyone in their path and throwing the community into panic.
He described the incident as particularly disturbing, noting that security agencies had reportedly received an early warning alert about a possible attack a day before the incident.
Also confirming the killings, the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, said suspected terrorist groups invaded Sabon Angwa and killed four residents.
Tengwong condemned the attack, describing the killing of innocent people as unacceptable, particularly amid existing security measures introduced to protect vulnerable communities.
He expressed concern that residents continued to face attacks despite the imposition of curfews and other security interventions.
The BYM spokesman called on security agencies to strengthen surveillance, increase their presence in vulnerable communities, and respond promptly to intelligence reports and early warning signals to prevent further killings.
He also urged security operatives to adopt proactive measures to protect residents and forestall further attacks in the area.
Efforts to reach security operatives for official confirmation and further details were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
