The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully contained a fire outbreak that occurred on the third floor of the Polaris Bank Building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, preventing the blaze from spreading to other parts of the high-rise structure.
The incident occurred at about 11:33 a.m. on Thursday and involved a stationary saloon car parked on the third floor of the 17-storey building, which also serves as a parking facility.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu fire stations responded swiftly to the emergency after receiving a distress call.
According to her, the fire was successfully extinguished, with damage limited to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully extinguished a fire outbreak that occurred on the third floor of the Polaris Bank Building, located at 61/65 Broad Street, Lagos Island,” Adeseye stated.
She added that no casualties or injuries were recorded in the incident.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire as investigations continue.
Videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke billowing from the building, drawing the attention of residents, commuters, and business operators in the area.
Emergency responders were seen battling the blaze and taking measures to prevent it from spreading to other sections of the building and nearby structures.
The swift intervention of firefighters helped bring the situation under control, averting what could have been a major disaster in the busy commercial district.
