Nigerian industrialist and philanthropist Aliko Dangote has been named among the 2026 edition of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.
The annual TIME100 list, released on April 15, recognises individuals whose leadership, ideas, and actions are shaping the future across business, politics, culture, and society.
Dangote, who is the only Nigerian on the list this year, appears in the “Titans and Innovators” category, marking his second inclusion after his first recognition in 2014 for his impact on business and philanthropy.
He joins a diverse group of global figures, including political leaders such as Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, Benjamin Netanyahu, Mark Carney, and Pope Leo XIV.
Also featured are top business and technology leaders like Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan, as well as Artemis II mission commander Reid Wiseman.
Other notable names in the Titans category include Michael Dell and Susan Dell, founders of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, and renowned fashion entrepreneur Ralph Lauren.
In the Pioneer category, honourees include Kiran Musunuru, Rebecca Ahrens-Nicklas, and Aaron Williams for advancements in genetic therapy and heart transplant readiness.
The list also recognises influential figures in entertainment and culture such as Ranbir Kapoor, Dakota Johnson, and Kate Hudson.
As founder and president of Dangote Group, Dangote has driven large-scale industrialisation across Africa, with investments spanning cement production, agriculture, food processing, infrastructure, and energy. His ventures have significantly reduced reliance on imports while generating millions of jobs across the continent.
In its citation, TIME highlighted Dangote’s vision of building globally competitive industries using local resources, noting his recent investments in large-scale manufacturing and energy infrastructure as key to Africa’s economic transformation.
Beyond business, Dangote’s philanthropic efforts through the Aliko Dangote Foundation have supported initiatives in healthcare, education, nutrition, disaster relief, and economic empowerment, impacting vulnerable communities across Africa.
The 2026 TIME100 recognition underscores growing global acknowledgement of African leadership and enterprise, with Dangote emerging as a leading figure in shaping the continent’s economic future.
