A young man in Kano State has reportedly cut off one of his fingers after allegedly being offered N80 million to provide a body part from a living person.
The bizarre incident was disclosed by the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command in a series of posts on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.
According to the police spokesperson, the man approached a police station to report that an individual had allegedly offered him N80 million to provide a human finger.
The man reportedly told the police that after failing to find anyone willing to give up a finger, he decided to use a knife to cut off one of his own fingers.
He allegedly handed the severed finger to the person who was said to have made the offer, expecting to receive the promised N80 million.
However, the man later went to the police after the alleged recipient reportedly refused to pay him the money.
Following the complaint, police operatives arrested the alleged recipient and took him into custody at the Kano State Police Command headquarters in Bompai.
During questioning, the suspect reportedly gave investigators a different account of what he had requested from the complainant.
He allegedly told the police that he did not ask for a human finger, but had requested a bone from the forearm of a living person.
The police reportedly recovered the severed finger as part of their investigation into the incident.
The command has continued its investigation to establish what transpired between the two men, including the nature of the alleged agreement and the circumstances that led to the young man severing his own finger.
The incident has raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the alleged demand for human body parts and the extreme action reportedly taken by the complainant in an attempt to fulfil the request.
