Family members, Nollywood colleagues, friends and prominent government officials gathered in Lagos on Friday, October 2, 2026, to bid a final farewell to veteran Nigerian actor, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs.
The funeral mass for the iconic actor was held at This Present House in Lekki, Lagos, as the Nigerian film industry and admirers of the late thespian came together to honour his life and decades-long contribution to Nollywood.
Olu Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84, leaving behind a celebrated career that spanned several decades in theatre, television and film.
His widow and fellow veteran actress, Joke Silva, attended the funeral alongside their sons, Olusoji and Olugbenga Jacobs. The family members were dressed in blue as they participated in the solemn service.
The funeral also attracted several prominent personalities, including Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and his wife, Chief Mrs Oluremi Hamzat.
Also in attendance were Lagos State First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; and former Ekiti State First Lady, Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi.
The gathering brought together figures from the entertainment industry, government and other walks of life, reflecting the widespread impact of the late actor’s career and public life.
Jacobs was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most respected actors, having built an extensive body of work across stage productions, television series and feature films. His career and performances helped shape the Nigerian entertainment industry and earned him recognition both within Nigeria and internationally.
Following the funeral mass, mourners were instructed to change into shades of green for the remaining funeral proceedings.
A private interment was scheduled to take place immediately after the church service, bringing the funeral ceremonies for the veteran actor to a close.
The funeral comes as the Nigerian entertainment community continues to mourn the passing of one of its most recognisable and influential actors, whose career left a lasting mark on Nollywood.
