The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances during a major intelligence-led operation along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
The operation, carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, also led to the arrest of four suspects believed to be connected to the shipment.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday at the police headquarters in Ikeja, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed that the items were recovered from a truck allegedly transporting the military uniforms to the South-East region of the country.
According to the police chief, preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment was being moved through Lagos before it was intercepted by operatives acting on credible intelligence.
Fatai said the four suspects are currently in custody and are assisting investigators with information that could lead to the identification and arrest of other individuals involved in the importation and distribution of the uniforms and suspected contraband.
He noted that the operation underscores the command’s commitment to combating criminal activities and preventing the unlawful circulation of military gear, which could pose serious security threats if allowed to fall into the wrong hands.
The commissioner added that investigations are ongoing to unravel the full network behind the shipment and determine the origin and intended use of the recovered items.
