Six people have been killed and two others injured in a road crash along the Kabba–Odo-Ape Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The fatal accident occurred on Saturday and involved a truck and a commercial vehicle, according to the Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lawal Fagge.
Fagge confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with journalists on Sunday, attributing the crash to excessive speeding.
He said six victims died in the collision, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken for medical attention.
The FRSC commander urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, particularly by avoiding speeding and unnecessary overtaking.
“It is unfortunate that six persons lost their lives as a result of this tragic incident involving a truck and another vehicle along the Kabba–Odo-Ape Road.
“We will continue to advise motorists to avoid speeding and desist from driving while fatigued. This is very important in preventing road crashes,” he said.
Fagge also confirmed that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in Kabba.
He reiterated the FRSC’s appeal to motorists to prioritise road safety and avoid behaviours that could endanger other road users.
