The body of a woman bearing suspected machete wounds has been discovered near a stream in the Wildlife Park Forest Reserve in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The discovery was made on Thursday morning after security operatives were alerted to the presence of the corpse in the forest.
Sources said the woman’s family had commenced a search for her after she failed to return home. The search reportedly ended with the discovery of her body near a stream within the reserve.
The deceased was said to have sustained injuries to her face and arm, with the wounds reportedly appearing consistent with machete cuts.
A staff member of the wildlife park, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to comment on the incident, confirmed that workers found the body and promptly contacted security personnel.
“We woke up and discovered the body and immediately contacted the security operatives.
“The security personnel came to the scene and commenced their initial assessment while efforts were made to establish what happened,” he said.
The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of security authorities at about 9:30 a.m.
Investigators are expected to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding her death, including whether she was attacked by suspected criminals.
However, efforts to obtain official confirmation from the security authorities were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
