Heirs Insurance Group has officially opened entries for its fourth annual national essay competition, offering junior secondary school students across Nigeria the chance to win scholarships and grants worth N10.5 million.
The 2025 Heirs Insurance Essay Championship comes with an exciting new twist – the introduction of a special category for teachers. This expansion reflects the company’s growing commitment to education and financial literacy in Nigeria.
Competition Details
Open to all JSS students nationwide, participants must submit original 500-word essays on “The Role of Insurance in Keeping Families Safe and Secure.” The submission portal will remain open from May 27 through July 8, 2025, with winners to be unveiled at a grand finale event in August.
This year’s prize structure includes:
- N5 million scholarship + N1m school grant for the winner
- N2 million scholarship for the first runner-up
- N1 million scholarship for the second runner-up
New Teacher Recognition Category
In a first for the competition, educators can now compete for the Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize. The top teacher will walk away with N1 million cash, while their school receives a N500,000 development grant. To qualify, teachers must implement and document an insurance awareness project in their school or community.
Ifesinachi Okpagu, Chief Marketing Officer of Heirs Insurance Group, said, “We’re taking this year’s competition to new heights. By including teachers, we’re creating a multiplier effect that will spread financial literacy far beyond just the participants.”
Building on Past Success
Since its inception, the Heirs Insurance Essay Championship has become one of Nigeria’s most prestigious academic competitions for junior secondary students. Last year’s edition attracted over 15,000 entries from all 36 states.
