Residents of Nuru Suraj Estate in the Millennium City area of Kaduna State have been thrown into panic after suspected kidnappers invaded the community in the early hours of Tuesday and reportedly abducted about six people.
The attackers were said to have gained access to the estate through its second gate before breaking into the neighbourhood and carrying out the abductions.
A resident, identified as Maman Hamid, whose house is close to those of the victims, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the incident triggered fear among residents.
She said military personnel pursued the suspected kidnappers following the attack, leading to the rescue of some of the victims, although the assailants escaped.
The number of people rescued and the whereabouts of those who remained missing were not immediately known as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has renewed concerns about the security of residents in Millennium City, a developing residential area on the outskirts of Kaduna metropolis that has recorded several kidnapping incidents in recent years.
Residents have repeatedly raised the alarm over attacks on residential estates and surrounding communities, calling for improved security measures to prevent criminals from gaining access to homes and carrying out abductions.
The latest attack has also drawn attention to vulnerabilities in estate access control and the need for stronger surveillance, regular security patrols and swift responses to distress calls.
In a related incident, suspected kidnappers reportedly abducted Ahmed Abubakar Zakka, his wife and their infant daughter, Fatima, from Alrahus Estate in Millennium City on the night of October 6, 2026. The family members were later rescued.
On October 12, 2026, police authorities reportedly announced the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers and four alleged informants during operations around Millennium City and Maraban Rido.
The operations also led to the recovery of AK-47 rifles, highlighting ongoing security efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks operating in the area.
The latest incident has intensified calls by residents for sustained security operations, particularly around estate gates and access routes that could be exploited by criminal groups.
The Kaduna State Police Command had yet to issue a statement on Tuesday’s attack as of the time of filing this report.
