Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed hope that she will leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 to a country where she can enjoy life, travel conveniently and witness further improvements in infrastructure.
Tinubu made the remarks on Friday while inaugurating the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots political group mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The First Lady said she looked forward to leaving Aso Rock at the end of her husband’s second-term ambition, by God’s grace, and living in a Nigeria where she could enjoy the benefits of the country’s development as a woman in her 70s.
“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.
She highlighted improvements in the country’s transport infrastructure, particularly airports, saying she wanted to be able to travel more quickly and conveniently.
“I want to get to the airport. I want to travel, you know, so quickly. And you can see our airports too are changing,” she added.
Tinubu also suggested that some Nigerians might not be noticing the changes she described, making a light-hearted reference to the administration’s achievements.
According to her, those who had yet to recognise the developments could be offered what she jokingly called “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”.
“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she said.
The First Lady’s comments came as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with supporters of the President organising grassroots movements to mobilise voters for his second-term bid.
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement is among the groups seeking to strengthen support for the President through community-level engagement and campaign activities.
After her remarks, Tinubu formally inaugurated the movement’s Abuja headquarters, dedicating the facility to the group’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the next presidential election.
She expressed optimism about the President’s 2027 re-election campaign and prayed for its success.
“So to the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027, I hereby formally commission the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement campaign headquarters Abuja,” she said.
Her remarks linked her hopes for Nigeria’s future beyond 2031 with her support for the President’s bid to secure another four-year term in office.
President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, following his victory in the 2023 presidential election. The next general election is scheduled for 2027, when voters will decide whether he should serve a second term.
