Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has reportedly died in the United Kingdom, with the news currently circulating among political circles.

However, as of the time of filing this report, there had been no official confirmation of his reported death from his family, the Kogi State Government or any other authoritative source.

Details surrounding the reported death, including when it allegedly occurred and the cause, also remained unclear and could not be independently verified.

Idris, a native of Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, served as governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party between May 2003 and February 2008, before returning to office in April 2008 following a court-ordered rerun.

His first tenure was cut short in February 2008 after a court nullified his 2007 re-election. He subsequently contested the rerun election held in March 2008 and returned as governor.

Idris eventually completed his second stint in office in January 2012, having become one of the longest-serving governors in the history of Kogi State.

Since leaving office, the former governor has remained influential in Kogi politics, with members and associates of his political camp continuing to play roles in the state’s political affairs.

Further details are expected as the family, government officials or other credible sources respond to the report.
