Confirming the incident, the state police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, stated that seven persons were kidnapped by the assailants. Sources in Akure, the Ondo State capital, revealed that the travelers were returning from a South-South state and heading to Akure when the gunmen struck. This was disclosed by the special adviser on energy, Olu Verheijen in a statement reported by Bloomberg. She noted that improved security around oil production and transportation sites is the key factor that supports the increase in output. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recovered 81 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.943 kilograms from a businessman’s stomach, valued at millions of naira, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
