The National Examination Council, NECO, said 40 schools in 17 states of Nigeria were caught in mass cheating in the recently concluded exams organised by the council.
NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, disclosed this in Minna, Niger State, during the release of the 2024 SSCE internal results.
He said: “40 schools were round to have been involved in whole-school mass cheating in 17 states adding that the schools will be invited to the council for discussion after which appropriate sanctions will be applied.”
Wushishi also said that NECO blacklisted 21 supervisors in 12 states and de-recognized one school in Ekiti state for mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject
He revealed that the supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting, abscondment, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence.
Wushishi further disclosed that although 1,376,423 students registered for the NECO examination, which 1,367,736 took the exams.
He said 828,284 candidates (60.55%) had credit passes in English and Mathematics.
