The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Nasiru Junaidu, for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl in the Nayi Nawa community of Damaturu, the state capital.
The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the ‘A’ Division Police Headquarters, Damaturu, following reports of repeated sexual abuse of the minor.
Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdulkarim Dungus, said preliminary investigations revealed that Junaidu lured the victim into a timber shed in Damaturu on several occasions before his arrest.
“The victim was rescued and taken to the Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, for medical examination and treatment of injuries sustained on her thighs and forehead,” Dungus stated.
He added that further investigation is ongoing, and the case will be transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for continued investigation and possible prosecution.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report any form of child abuse or sexual violence to the nearest police station.
