Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested the village head of Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area, Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, for allegedly shooting his sister, Unwana Effiong Friday, in the head during a dispute over palm fruits.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the incident occurred on September 6, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m. following a distress call.
Operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the victim was rushed to the hospital, where she is receiving treatment and reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, and a long, single-barreled gun, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered.
“The report filed by a man (name withheld) indicated that his brother, Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, the village head of Ibagwa, allegedly shot their sister, Unwana Effiong Friday Inyang, 32, in the head with a gun,” DSP John stated.
She added that investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be charged in court in due course.
