One construction worker has died, while three others sustained critical injuries after a two-storey building under construction collapsed in Lagos State in the early hours of Friday.
The incident occurred along Akinola Street, near Fadeyi Bus Stop, off Ikorodu Road, trapping workers beneath the rubble.
Local sources said the workers had spent the night at the site to prepare for an early start on Friday when the structure suddenly caved in around midnight.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency responders arrived at the scene to conduct search and rescue operations.
Confirming the incident, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said three adult males were rescued alive, while one was recovered dead at about 3:33am.
He added that rescue teams were using the agency’s excavator to clear the debris and determine whether anyone else remained trapped.
The cause of the collapse had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report.
