The Rivers State Police Command has suspended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost from their duties following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the facility.
The Command also ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the renovation after a video circulated on social media purportedly showing suspected cultists visiting the outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the project.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said the affected officers had been queried and relieved of their duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, condemned any action or association capable of undermining the integrity, discipline, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the Command, police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, and must not be used by criminal groups to gain public recognition or legitimacy.
The investigation is expected to determine the identities of the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the renovation, the officers who authorised the project, and whether the necessary procedures and approvals were obtained.
It will also establish whether any police personnel breached professional standards, compromised the integrity of the Force, or were involved in any improper dealings connected to the project.
However, the Command acknowledged that legitimate community contributions towards improving police facilities are permitted under Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020.
It stressed that such assistance must comply with established procedures and must not compromise police independence, security, or professional standards.
The statement added that no donation or form of assistance would shield anyone from investigation or prosecution if found to have engaged in unlawful activities.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on cultism and other criminal activities, the Command said appropriate disciplinary and legal actions would be taken against anyone found culpable at the conclusion of the investigation.
It further urged police personnel to maintain the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and accountability, while assuring residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and combating organised crime across Rivers State.
The Command appealed to members of the public to remain calm and provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
Residents can report complaints through the Police Complaint Response Unit on 07057605209, 07057605256, 08120822987, and 07072323049, or contact the Police Control Room on 08032003514.
