Troops of the Nigerian Army’s COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have dislodged terrorist elements and recovered weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles during a clearance operation in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The operation was carried out as part of ongoing military offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring security to communities across the North-West.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the spokesman for Sector 2, 8 Division, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, said the troops advanced through identified terrorist strongholds, including Manu, Alkasim, and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya Forest axis.

According to him, the troops encountered the terrorists inside the Magarya Forest, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

“Upon making contact with the terrorists within the Magarya forest enclave, troops engaged the terrorist elements with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee into the deep forest,” the statement said.

Following the encounter, the troops conducted follow-up operations and searched the area, recovering a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, and a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition.

Several motorcycles, along with assorted logistical and miscellaneous items reportedly abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, were also recovered.

The Army said the seizure of the weapons and motorcycles would further weaken the terrorists’ operational capabilities in the area.

The statement added that troops had maintained a strong operational presence and continued to dominate the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping and protect surrounding communities.

“The troops continue to dominate the general area to ensure the total security of surrounding communities,” it added.
