NIGERIA: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said 91 persons were killed in just three ghastly road accidents in just last week. FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, who made the revelation at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, said 48 lives were lost in Niger State on September 8, 18 in Sabon Wuse on September 12, and 25 in Kaduna State on September 15. He expressed concern about the avoidable loss of lives, stating that all three crashes were avoidable. The National Examination Council, NECO, said 40 schools in 17 states of Nigeria were caught in mass cheating in the recently concluded exams organised by the council. NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, disclosed this in Minna, Niger State, during the release of the 2024 SSCE internal results. The Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has suspended Mr Otonye Briggs, the Caretaker Committee chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state. The suspension took immediate effect, with a replacement, Bitebobo Nelson Amieye, appointed to take over as Chairman. Briggs was directed to hand over all council’s property to Amieye. The Governor’s decision was conveyed in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.
