The inferno also displaced families who had already lost their homes due to insurgency. According to Zagazola Makama, the fire broke out around 11:25 am on Friday, February 28, 2025, and quickly spread through the overcrowded camp, destroying makeshift shelters and personal belongings. Security personnel, including troops stationed in Konduga, swiftly responded to the scene, working alongside emergency responders and local community members to control the fire.

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara on Friday suffered another loss at the Supreme Court, which nullified the local government election held in the state last October 5, 2024.
