Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State marked his first 100 days in office by highlighting significant progress in various sectors. At an event in Benin City, he emphasized a strong foundation for future development.
Speaking at an event to commemorate the administration’s first 100 days in office at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin City, the state capital, Okpebholo said he had laid a strong foundation for progress across critical sectors in the State.
He remarked that he inherited a state struggling with myriad challenges amidst loads of potential, the governor revealed that he had a clear goal “to restore hope in leadership, create opportunities, and set Edo on the path of lasting progress.”
While conceding that there was so much more to be done, he enthused that his administration was taking decisive steps to turn its vision into reality. Governor Okpebholo reeled out the successes of his administration in the areas of security, infrastructure, natural resources, agriculture, and education, and assured the people that more benefits are in the offing
“We have taken significant steps in strengthening our economy by increasing our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by N10 billion as we took our drive to corporate bodies,’ he added.
Key Achievements:
- Economic Growth: Increased Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by N10 billion.
- Job Creation: Launched interest-free loan schemes for SMEs and disbursed grants to over 400 small business owners.
- Healthcare: Established the first VVF center in the Southsouth, offered free malaria testing and treatment, and upgraded health facilities.
- Security: Amended anti-cultism and kidnapping laws, reorganized the Edo State Security Corps, and procured vehicles and motorbikes to combat crime.
- Infrastructure: Started constructing major roads and the Ramat Park flyover project.
Initiatives:
- Launched the SHINE project, focusing on Security, Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Agriculture, and Education.
- Plans to prioritize agricultural infrastructure and youth skills development over the next four years.
National and local leaders praised the governor for his achievements and practical governance. The National Chairman of the All Progressive Party, APC, and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of the state, commended the governor for his giant stride within the short period.
