Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator, Samuel Animashaun Perry, better known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted how a stray bullet struck him while filming a comedy skit in Ogun State, leaving him afraid he might never walk normally again.
The entertainer disclosed that the incident occurred on March 9, 2026, around the Sango-Ota Bridge area of Ogun State, forcing him to withdraw from public activities for several months as he underwent treatment and recovered from the gunshot injury.
Broda Shaggi opened up about the traumatic experience in an emotional video shared on social media, describing the frightening moments after the shooting and the uncertainty he faced during his recovery.
According to him, the incident happened after his team had completed an activation and was preparing to leave the location. They were caught in traffic amid a crowd gathered around a filming activity when he suddenly heard a loud bang.
He said the sound was followed by an unusual moment of silence, leaving him confused until he touched his hip and discovered that he was bleeding.
“We were done with the activation. We were already leaving. In fact, we were in traffic, but there was traffic because there was a crowd shooting,” he recalled.
“Suddenly, I heard a loud bang, and everything went silent. I could see people talking, but I couldn’t hear anything. It was total silence in the car. Then I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when I realised I had been hit by a stray bullet.”
The comedian said members of his crew immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital after the shooting.
He disclosed that he remained unconscious until he arrived at the medical facility and could not remember how he was transported there.
Broda Shaggi, however, recalled praying throughout the ordeal before receiving emergency first aid at a private hospital in Alakuko, Lagos State.
He was subsequently transferred to another medical facility in Ikeja for further emergency treatment because of the severity of the injury and the need for specialised medical care.
The actor later travelled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he underwent surgery to treat the gunshot wound.
Despite the frightening experience, Broda Shaggi said his recovery progressed encouragingly after the operation. He disclosed that he was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with the aid of crutches on the third day.
However, beyond the physical pain and medical procedures, the comedian said the uncertainty surrounding his ability to walk and return to work was one of the most difficult aspects of the experience.
Known for his energetic comedy skits, exaggerated physical expressions and distinctive performances, Broda Shaggi feared that the injury could permanently affect his ability to entertain audiences.
He said watching videos of fellow entertainers while recovering often left him emotionally overwhelmed because he was unsure whether he would ever be able to perform as he did before the incident.
“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh, and sometimes I would just start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they were doing again,” he said.
The comedian’s prolonged absence from social media had prompted questions from fans and followers who were accustomed to his regular comedy videos and online engagements.
His latest revelation has provided an explanation for his disappearance, with the entertainer expressing gratitude for surviving the incident and recovering from an injury that could have had more devastating consequences.
Broda Shaggi also thanked God that the bullet did not hit a more vital organ, acknowledging that the outcome could have been worse.
He equally appreciated his fans for their concern and support during the months he spent away from the public eye, as he focused on treatment and rehabilitation.
The incident highlights the dangers that can arise during outdoor filming and other public activities, particularly in crowded environments where gunfire can put people who are not involved in any confrontation at risk.
