Content creator Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, popularly known as Isbae U, has revealed the inspiration behind his popular interview series, Curiosity Made Me Ask, saying he created the show because he wanted to establish a distinct identity beyond skit-making.
Isbae U made this known during an interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show, shared on YouTube.
The content creator explained that his journey in the entertainment industry had taken him through different creative paths, including singing, rapping and skit-making, before he decided to develop a format that would distinguish him from other creators.
According to him, he reached a point where he became determined to move away from being identified simply as another skit maker.
“There was a day I said to someone that I was done being mediocre, being average. I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want to just be considered part of them, part of the skit makers, one of them,” he said.
Isbae U said his search for a unique concept was strengthened after he watched American comedian and actor Zach Galifianakis’ interview series, Between Two Ferns.
He said the unconventional format of the programme convinced him that he could develop something similar for his own audience while giving it a Nigerian identity.
“I saw a show that I used to watch a long time ago. It’s called Between Two Ferns by Zach Galifianakis. So when I saw the show, I loved it. I thought, ‘Oh, this is something I can do,’” he said.
The content creator explained that his objective was not merely to conduct conventional celebrity interviews, but to expose a different side of well-known personalities that audiences might not ordinarily see.
“The idea of Curiosity Made Me Ask is to show you another part of this celebrity you’ve not seen,” he said.
Since its launch in December 2023, the show has hosted a wide range of celebrities, entertainers, athletes and public figures.
Among those who have appeared on the programme are veteran actors Pete Edochie, Jide Kosoko, Yemi Solade and Kate Henshaw, as well as musicians Teni, Bella Shmurda and Odumodublvck.
Other notable guests include actress and comedian Bisola Aiyeola, content creator KieKie, comedians Bovi and Shank Comics, footballer Victor Boniface, and personalities such as Bobrisky, Tacha, James Brown and Charly Boy.
The programme has continued to attract prominent guests, with recent episodes featuring personalities such as Femi Branch, Deyemi Okanlawon, EF Moon and Morayo Afolabi-Brown.
One of the show’s most prominent recent guests was former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whose appearance generated attention because of the unusual pairing of the former Nigerian leader with the younger content creator.
Despite the growing popularity of the interview series, Isbae U said he has not completely abandoned other forms of content creation.
He explained that he remains involved in writing and developing stories for other creators, although much of that work takes place behind the scenes.
“A lot of people thought or think I have stopped creating and just doing Curiosity Made Me Ask. But low-key, there are people I write stories for, people I help with their stories,” he said.
Isbae U’s comments highlight the evolution of his career from experimenting with music and skit-making to developing an interview format that has become a major part of his identity as a content creator.
The show’s growing guest list has also expanded beyond entertainers, bringing politicians, veteran actors, athletes and other public figures into its distinctive style of celebrity interviews.
