Palpable tension has gripped Aujarawar Alkali community in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State following the abduction of its traditional ruler, Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, popularly known as Ruwata Midnight.
The monarch was reportedly kidnapped during a late-night attack on the community on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after armed men stormed the area with sophisticated weapons.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers seized the traditional ruler and fled with him to an undisclosed location, leaving residents in fear and uncertainty.
The incident was confirmed on Friday by Mahi Ismail, spokesperson to the Zannan Kano and the District Head of Jogana.
Ismail described the development as a serious threat to the peace and security of the community, as residents and local leaders expressed concern over the monarch’s safety.
Reacting to the abduction, the District Head of Jogana, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ma’aji, appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and rescue the village head.
Ma’aji also called for increased security across vulnerable rural communities in the area to prevent further attacks.
“We appeal to security operatives to strengthen the protection of lives and property and do everything possible to ensure the safe return of our village head,” he said.
The district head urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist the rescue operation.
He also appealed to members of the public to pray for the safe release of Ahmad, expressing hope that the abducted monarch would soon return to his family and community.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the reported abduction.
