The Enugu State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of a 53-year-old politician in Enugu State, Chief Ikechukwu Oloto, who was killed by suspected assailants at his residence in the Odenigbo area of Nsukka Local Government Area.

Oloto, popularly known as Okanga Moo, was reportedly attacked on Thursday evening, September 17, 2026, and later found critically injured in a pool of blood inside his residence.

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday, saying it had commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.

The command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the police received a report at about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday that the politician had been found seriously injured at his residence.

He said operatives immediately responded to the scene and discovered that Oloto had sustained deep suspected machete wounds to his head and stomach.

“Police operatives promptly responded and found him with deep suspected machete cuts to his head and stomach,” Ndukwe said.

According to the police spokesman, the victim was immediately taken to a hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

“He was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor,” Ndukwe said.

He added that Oloto’s remains had been deposited at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Following the incident, the police command launched a manhunt for the suspected assailant or assailants while detectives commenced investigations into the circumstances of the attack.

Oloto was a prominent political figure in Nsukka Local Government Area and was widely known in the community by his nickname, Okanga Moo.
