The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man, Taye Kasali, for allegedly killing his mother, Kudirat Kasali, following a disagreement over the family’s farmland.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement, saying the incident was uncovered after Kudirat and her son were reported missing on September 1, 2026.
According to the statement, the police received the missing-person report at the Bode-Osi Police Division in Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area of the state and immediately commenced an investigation into their disappearance.
The command said an intelligence-led investigation subsequently led to Taye’s arrest on September 7.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to killing his mother on August 31, 2026, and reportedly led detectives to a farm where her remains were found buried in a shallow grave.
The police also recovered a machete allegedly used to slit the woman’s throat before her body was buried.
Ojelabi said the suspect told investigators that the disagreement with his mother was connected to the family’s farmland, which he described as their major source of livelihood.
According to the police, Taye also alleged that his mother had repeatedly referred to him as a mad person and threatened to lease out the farmland.
Following the alleged confession, detectives accompanied the suspect to the farm, where they located and recovered the deceased’s remains from the shallow grave.
The police said the machete suspected to have been used in the killing was also recovered and preserved as an exhibit as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case.
Zungura directed the investigators to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged killing and ensure that the suspect is charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
The commissioner assured residents that justice would be served in accordance with the law.
He also urged members of the public to promptly report missing persons and other suspicious or criminal activities to the police, stressing the importance of public cooperation and vigilance in preventing crime across the state.
