A ROW over a pair of N1,000 bathroom slippers ended in horror when a university student allegedly stabbed his own brother to death during a violent fight on campus.
The shocking tragedy unfolded on Tuesday at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), in Delta State.
Both brothers were said to be students of the institution.
Sources told reporters that the pair had been locked in a long-running feud before the argument over the slippers boiled over into bloodshed.
A university insider said: “The two brothers had been in a cold war over some unknown issues for some time.
“On Tuesday, they started quarrelling over the ownership of a pair of bathroom slippers.”
Witnesses claimed the younger brother allegedly picked up a dagger during the confrontation and threatened to stab his elder sibling.
But in a dramatic twist, the older brother reportedly overpowered him, seized the weapon and launched a deadly attack.
“He overpowered him, collected the knife and stabbed him several times,” the source said.
“He was stabbed in the arms, chest and back before the attacker fled the scene.”
The blade was reportedly broken during the attack and remained lodged in the victim’s body.
Despite his horrific injuries, the wounded student allegedly managed to crawl away and attract the attention of other students, who immediately raised the alarm.
He was said to have told rescuers that his brother was responsible for the attack before succumbing to his injuries.
The killing sent shockwaves across the campus, with distraught students struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
As news of the incident spread, angry students reportedly launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect, sparking fears that the bereaved family could lose a second son if mob justice took hold.
At the time of filing this report, the suspect remained at large.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Bright Edafe, had yet to respond to enquiries regarding the incident.
