Following a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu mandating all service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to curb renewed attacks by insurgents, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday arrived in the Borno State capital.
The directive comes amid rising cases of attacks and bombings linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP in parts of the North-East.
The service chiefs touched down at the Maiduguri Air Force Base at about 11 a.m., where they were received by the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, alongside other senior military officers.
From the air base, the military chiefs proceeded directly to the Theatre Command Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, for operational briefings.
They later mounted a Guard of Honour at the Maimalari Military Cantonment before heading into a closed-door strategic meeting with top commanders.
The CDS is expected to brief journalists after the meeting as security stakeholders intensify efforts to stem the resurgence of insurgent activities in the region.
