Kano State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden deaths of two members of the State House of Assembly, who were reported dead within hours of each other on Wednesday.

The development was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kamaludeen Sani Shawai, in a statement to journalists.

Shawai said one of the lawmakers, Aminu Sa’adu, fell ill shortly after arriving at the Assembly complex earlier in the day. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead in the evening.

Sa’adu represented Ungogo Local Government Area in the Assembly. His funeral prayers were scheduled to be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Shortly after news of Sa’adu’s death broke, another member of the Assembly, Sarki Aliyu Daneji, was also reported dead. Daneji represented the Kano Municipal Local Government Area.

The deaths were also confirmed by the spokesperson to Governor Abba Yusuf, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who announced the development on his official Facebook page, describing the two losses as occurring in quick succession.

The deaths of the two lawmakers on Christmas Eve have left the state in shock. Colleagues in the Assembly, party leaders, government officials, and constituents have continued to express disbelief and deep grief, describing the incident as a major setback to legislative activities in Kano State.
