The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on Nigerians to actively identify and report ineligible and deceased persons on the national voter register as the Display for Claims and Objections is set to begin on December 15, 2025.

The appeal comes ahead of the conclusion of the first quarter of the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which ends on Wednesday, December 10.

INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, in a statement on Wednesday, described the display exercise—mandated by Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022—as a crucial mechanism for safeguarding the credibility of the voter register. The display will run from December 15 to 21 across all INEC Local Government Offices nationwide.

She urged Nigerians, particularly those who registered, transferred, or updated their information during the current phase, to verify their details and report inaccuracies or the inclusion of ineligible or deceased individuals.

Eta-Messi emphasised that public vigilance remains key to preserving the integrity of the voter roll and preventing fraudulent or erroneous entries ahead of future elections.

Providing an update on the CVR, the Commission announced that a total of 9,891,801 online pre-registrations had been recorded as of the end of the 13th week. Of this figure, 2,572,054 registrations have been completed—1,503,832 online and 1,068,222 through physical registration as of November 28.

She noted that CVR activities remain suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral processes, with new dates for resumption to be announced later. The second phase of the nationwide CVR is scheduled to resume on January 5, 2026.

INEC reiterated its commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible electoral process, stressing that public cooperation is essential to building an accurate and dependable voter register.

Meanwhile, the Commission has confirmed that the physical CVR exercise in Yobe State’s 17 local government areas will end on December 10. The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ibrahim Abdullahi, in a statement in Damaturu, said the display of the preliminary register for claims and objections will also hold from December 15 to 21.

He explained that the window will allow registrants to correct errors in their biodata, including names, wards, and National Identification Numbers (NIN). December 21 has been set aside to address complaints arising from the process.

Abdullahi recalled that the ongoing CVR began on August 18 with online registration, followed by in-person registration on August 25. He described voter registration and the production of an accurate register as fundamental responsibilities of the Commission, noting that Section 10 of the Electoral Act 2022 mandates continuous voter registration.

He added that the second phase of in-person registration in Yobe will resume on January 5, 2026.
