A tragic incident occurred in Otan-Ile, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, where an artisan identified as Tope Olajide reportedly took his own life following a disagreement with his wife.

The incident took place around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Confirming the development in a statement on Friday, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, Kehinde Adeleke, said:

“On August 21, 2025, at approximately 9:27 a.m., our Ilare Division received information that one Olajide Tope, popularly known as MECO in Otan-Ile, had committed suicide.”

According to Adeleke, community members confirmed that the deceased had a disagreement with his wife on Wednesday night, though the exact cause of the suicide remains unclear.

Reacting to the incident, the State Commandant of NSCDC, CC Igbalawole Sotiyo, urged individuals and couples facing emotional or marital challenges to seek help.

“The Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit of the NSCDC Osun State Command has successfully mediated numerous cases and continues to offer support and guidance to those in distress. No one should feel compelled to end their life—every life is valuable and irreplaceable,” he said.
