The Air Component of the Joint Task Force, Operation Fasan Yamma (OPFY), on Thursday confirmed a major operational success with the neutralization of over 30 terrorists during a precision airstrike on 4 August 2025 in Zamfara State.

According to a statement by Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer, the strike targeted a gathering of terrorists at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area, where they had assembled for a wedding ceremony.

The operation, based on credible intelligence, focused on terrorists from the Faskari and Kankara axes of Katsina State and various locations in Zamfara. The airstrike killed numerous militants and left many others critically injured. Injured fighters were reportedly evacuated by their comrades to Yankuzo village for treatment.

In a swift follow-up, troops of 1 Brigade under Sector 2 OPFY launched a ground operation on 5 August, successfully engaging terrorists after encountering an ambush en route to the village.

Local sources and other reliable reports confirmed that no fewer than 30 terrorists were neutralized during the joint air and ground operations. Additionally, four known collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village in Tsafe LGA sustained critical injuries.

The success of the operation has brought significant relief to residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding communities, who have faced frequent terrorist attacks in recent times.

Operation Fasan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security across Zamfara State and the wider North West region.
