Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued six kidnapped victims after a gun battle with suspected terrorists in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The victims were rescued on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, around Mehinua Village along the Wasagu-Ayu Road after troops received credible intelligence about suspected terrorist activity in the area.
The Media Information Officer, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, confirmed the development in a statement.
According to Danja, troops immediately mobilised to the area and made contact with the suspected terrorists.
“Acting on the intelligence, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene, where they made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with a high volume of fire,” he said.
The military spokesman said the intensity of the troops’ response forced the terrorists to flee, leaving their victims behind.
“Following the engagement, troops successfully rescued the six kidnapped victims unharmed,” he added.
The victims and the vehicle were subsequently handed over to the relevant community authorities for further necessary action.
Danja said the operation demonstrated the military’s commitment to protecting residents and their property across the Joint Operations Area.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely information about suspicious activities in their communities.
“Operation Fansan Yamma appreciates the general public for its continuous support and urges them to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities within their localities to the nearest security outpost for prompt action,” he said.
