Suspected gunmen on Tuesday night attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and reportedly carted away firearms belonging to officers on duty.

The attack occurred at about 10 p.m. at the immigration facility located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Motorway near the NNPC filling station.

According to sources, the assailants stormed the office while commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, creating panic in the area.

The attackers were said to have overpowered officers on duty before making away with their weapons. However, the exact number of firearms stolen during the operation could not be immediately ascertained.

After carrying out the attack, the gunmen reportedly fled the scene under the cover of darkness, leaving security agencies to commence investigations into the incident.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had yet to receive an official briefing on the matter.

“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” Ayanlade said.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the relevant authorities, while efforts were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and track down those responsible.
