The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has impounded three luxury vehicles, including a 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost valued at N905 million in duty paid value (DPV).

    Other vehicles seized include a 2014 Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC with a DPV of N21,423,400 and a 2018 Honda Accord valued at N32,200,000.

In addition to the vehicles, the Command intercepted a range of contraband goods during the review period. These include 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice (equivalent to over seven truckloads), 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa (commonly known as marijuana), and 105 used tyres. The total duty paid value of all seizures amounts to N1,401,531,923.95.

Comptroller Godwin Otunla, Controller of the Ogun 1 Area Command, disclosed this during a press briefing held at Idiroko on Thursday.

According to Otunla, the seizures are the result of the Command’s unwavering commitment to tackling smuggling and resisting efforts by economic saboteurs to undermine Nigeria’s economy and national security.

He also announced that the Command generated N45,054,191 in revenue for July 2025—an increase of 27.47% compared to the N35,327,852 recorded in July 2024.

“This remarkable growth reflects our intensified compliance enforcement, improved border surveillance, and enhanced stakeholder engagement,” Otunla stated.

In a show of inter-agency collaboration, Otunla handed over the seized illicit drugs to the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command, Ekundayo Williams, for further investigation and necessary action.

Reaffirming the Customs’ stance against smuggling, Otunla emphasized the Command’s resolve to continue working in synergy with other agencies, leveraging intelligence sharing and innovation—aligned with the policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

He issued a stern warning to smugglers and their collaborators:

“We remain vigilant, resolute, and unyielding. No matter how sophisticated your tactics, our officers will continue to foil your operations, and the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on you.”

Otunla commended the officers of the Command for their dedication and resilience. He also acknowledged the vital support of other security agencies and the cooperation of patriotic members of border communities who continue to provide actionable intelligence to aid Customs operations.
