Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Chief Anthony Ofoni, has announced the suspension of Victor Edevwe, the youth president of Ekpan Community, following his arrest by operatives of the Delta Police Command for allegedly purchasing an AK-47 rifle.

In a statement, the Chairman directed the community vice youth president, Otome Iffie, to assume leadership of the youth body, explaining that the suspension was to ensure “public security.

“Consequently, Mr. Otome Iffie, the Vice President, has immediately been mandated to take over the leadership of the youth body, not in an acting capacity but as a substantive President for the remaining months of their term, which will elapse on the 7th of June, 2025.

“This information is for the general public and strict compliance by all, please. Let’s join hands to uphold and maintain peace in Ekpan and Uvwie Local Government Area in general,” the statement added.

It would be noted that police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ekpan, CSP Aliyu Shaba, stormed Shrine Street, Ekpan on March 15, and apprehended the suspect following intelligence.

Arms recovered included “one AK-47 rifle, one single barrel gun, three cutlasses, two daggers and Forty-four rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition,” a statement by the Police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, read in part.
