Cross River State has inaugurated the State Consultative Committee on Statistics (SCCS), aiming to strengthen the state’s statistical system and promote data-driven decision-making.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Gil Nsa, said the committee will focus on improving data accuracy and fostering collaboration across government agencies, the private sector, and research institutions.
At the launch, Acting Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey stressed the importance of reliable data in shaping effective policies, highlighting the state’s People First agenda, which prioritizes sustainability, accountability, and economic development.
“This committee will serve as a vital platform for stakeholders to collaborate in building a world-class data system that will support our state’s growth,” Acting Governor Odey said. “I encourage members to work boldly and innovatively to ensure that Cross River State becomes a leader in data-driven governance.”
Dr. Bong Duke, Chairman of the State Planning Commission, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the committee’s role in facilitating collaboration between state and federal agencies, development partners, and other key stakeholders.
He highlighted the meeting’s theme, “Enhancing Data Integration and Interoperability in the Cross-Universal State Statistical System,” and stressed the importance of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data analytics in improving data accuracy and decision-making.
Dr. Joseph Adoga, Statistician General of the state, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that the committee would ensure policies are guided by high-quality data.
The committee, which includes key government figures, security agencies, and private sector representatives, marks a major step toward data-driven governance in Cross River State, aimed at fostering informed decision-making and sustainable development.
