Hundreds of travellers and motorists are currently stranded around the Okwoejeba section of the Benin – Warri road section of the East-West Highway due to the deplorable state of the road.
Many travellers have taken to social media sites, including Facebook and WhatsApp, to lament their fates on the busy highway, with some saying they had spent up to four hours on the road.
A Delta State-based journalist, Onitsha Ogaga Shedrack, one of the affected travellers caught up in the gridlock, said he had been at a spot for about three hours without movement.
“This is the situation of the Effurun (Warri) – Benin road. We have been stuck at one spot for nearly three hours just between Elume Junction and Mountain of Fire and Miracle (MFM) camp.
“You can see that the road is completely blocked and trucks have takeover three lanes – There are no vehicles going or coming,” Onitsha lamented on his Facebook wall on Wednesday afternoon.
Other road users who decried the deplorable state of the road, appealed to the Federal Government to step up action on repairing the bad spots on the road to save road users worse experiences during the yuletide season.
Users of the road told our reporter that several potholes and dilapidated start from the Ohorhe area of Uvwie, through Elume, Okwoedjeba, Oghara and other parts of the 110km Benin- Warri highway.
“In the past, a journey from Benin to Warri usually lasted no longer than one hour, but in recent times it can take up to five or more hours,” another source said.
