American oil giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited, has been advised to reserve 70% of its recently announced job vacancies for qualified embers of its host communities in Delta and Ondo states.
The request was contained in a letter to CNL executives by representatives of the Ijaw and Ilaja communities.
The letter obtained by Naija Daily News was authored by representatives of Egbema-OPUDIS Host Communities Development Trust (HCDT), including Mr Edmund Doyah-Tiemo, Agbonu Ogulagha-Ibe HCDT led by Mr Satu Peter, Warri Kingdom Coastal HCDT led by Mrs Ademola Doris and Ugboland HCDT, led by Chief Benson Obayelu.
The letter stated: “Recently, Chevron Nigeria Limited published job openings, and we respectfully request that 70% preference be given to qualified candidates from the host communities. This gesture would demonstrate Chevron’s dedication to empowering local talent and fostering economic growth in our regions.
“Furthermore, we urge Chevron to consider converting contract workers, especially the VTP 5 and VTP 6 trainees, to permanent staff. Many contract workers have rendered dedicated service, acquiring valuable experience and skills”.
“We believe these requests align with Chevron’s corporate social responsibility goals and Nigerian Content Development policy,” the letter added.
