The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly robbing a female Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator of N200,000 at gunpoint in Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Enugu by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
According to Ndukwe, the suspect was arrested on October 18 at about 12:26 p.m. by operatives of the Udenu Police Division, with support from members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
He said the arrest followed a report that the suspect had allegedly robbed the POS operator at her shop along Old Orba Road, Uhulor, Obollo-Afor, on October 17 at about 9 a.m.
Ndukwe explained that the victim raised the alarm as the suspect fled from the scene, allegedly threatening to shoot anyone who attempted to pursue him.
He added that police operatives recovered a Beretta-like pistol and an expended 9mm ammunition shell from the suspect.
“The suspect has confessed to the crime during interrogation,” the police spokesperson said.
He further stated that the suspect would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for their efforts in apprehending the suspect and acknowledged the support provided by the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
Giwa reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling crime across the state and urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the police and other recognised security agencies.
The police said investigations into the incident were ongoing.
