Oshiomhole: Stick with Obaseki, ‘Intelligent’ Ighodalo
Barely 48 hours after the All Progressive Party won the Edo State governorship election, members of the ruling PDP in the state and associates of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki, are scheming to dump the party.
Sources said some of the embattled governor’s associates and allies have reached out to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of the state and de facto leader of the APC in the state to negotiate a soft-landing into the party.
It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC as winner of the Saturday’s election.
The governor-elect won in 11 of 18 LGAs of the state to defeat his closest rival, Mr Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, who won in seven and polled 247,274 votes. The election result is being contested by the PDP, which has vowed to get justice through the court.
Meanwhile, some leaders and members of the PDP have started abandoning it and seeking shelter in the APC, but NDN learnt that the APC had vowed to shut the doors to politicians who did not contribute to the party’s success.
A trending video by Afemai TV showed a PDP leader appealing to Sen Oshiomhole to facilitate his reintegration into the winning party, but the Afemai-born former governor was emphatic that only those who contributed to the party’s success would benefit.
“Go with your artificial intelligence, allow us to be with our native intelligence”, Oshiomole said in an apparent reference to insinuation that the APC’s candidate is unintelligent compared to his orator counterpart.
“We cannot be fooled again. You were with them (PDP) both before and after the elections but now you want to jump out. You voted Asue Ighodalo, go with him; you cannot eat here,” Oshiomhole maintained.
