A Nigerian man has reportedly arrested his wife and mother-in-law following the death of the couple’s baby amid an alleged dispute over a “push gift” after childbirth.
The story was shared by social commentator Ossai Ovie Success in a social media post, in which he narrated the alleged circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the account, the couple had been married for four years without a child. Both spouses were reportedly under 28 and had eventually welcomed their first child after the woman became pregnant last year.
Ossai said the woman had requested a car as her “push gift” — a modern way of appreciating a woman by her partner after childbirth.
The woman reportedly underwent a Caesarean section (CS) last month after what was described as a difficult delivery, while her husband allegedly spent a substantial amount of money on the delivery.
However, three days after giving birth, she reportedly demanded the car.
When her husband allegedly told her that he could not afford it at the time, she was said to have threatened to stop feeding the baby until he bought the vehicle.
According to the account, nurses at the hospital had to intervene and plead with her.
The situation allegedly deteriorated after the family returned home.
Ossai claimed that the husband would return from work to find the baby crying, while the mother allegedly refused to breastfeed unless her husband pleaded with her.
He further alleged that she later left home and stayed at her mother’s residence for two days, leaving the baby behind.
The husband reportedly discovered that the baby had become seriously ill and went to his mother-in-law’s home to plead with his wife to return.
She allegedly refused to come back until he agreed to purchase the car.
Ossai said the woman eventually returned home, but the baby’s condition reportedly worsened.
A few days later, the couple allegedly lost their baby girl.
Following the child’s death, the husband reportedly sent his wife out of the house.
The woman allegedly returned with her mother to plead with him, but he reportedly had both women arrested.
