A 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, identified as Audi Emmanuel, has been found dead in his off-campus residence along Awolowo Road in the Emure Ile-Owo community, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The deceased, a Computer Engineering student, was discovered hanging in his room under circumstances believed to be a case of suicide, although the exact cause of the incident remains unknown as of the time of filing this report.

A video circulating on social media on Tuesday showed the lifeless body of the student hanging, with some individuals at the scene covering their noses, suggesting the body had been there for some time before it was discovered.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Abayomi Jimoh, said the command had commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

“The Ondo State Police Command confirms the report of a suspected suicide incident at Emure-Ile involving a 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, who was found dead in his residence,” he said.

Jimoh added that police operatives visited the scene, recovered the body, and deposited it at a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

“Preliminary observations suggest a case of suicide; a thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” he stated.

The police, while expressing condolences to the family of the deceased, urged members of the public to seek help and speak up during moments of emotional distress, emphasizing that support is always available.
