The Oyo State Police Command has arrested one Giwa Sodiq in connection with a violent altercation that resulted in the death of Kehinde, popularly known as “Ogo Ojigbo,” in Asalu Community, Lalupon, within Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, the state capital. He confirmed that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of Adeoyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that community leaders reported the incident to the Iyana-Offa Police Division after being alerted by local security guards to a confrontation involving a group of youths in the area while residents were asleep.
“The injured individuals were immediately rushed to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana-Offa, for medical attention, where one of the victims, identified as Kehinde, also known as ‘Ogo Ojigbo,’ later succumbed to his injuries,” Ayanlade said.
He added that upon receiving the report, a team of police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Iyana-Offa promptly visited the scene and the hospital. Photographs were taken for documentation, and one suspect, Giwa Sodiq, was arrested in connection with the incident.
The police spokesman noted that efforts were ongoing to track down other suspects who fled the scene to ensure they are brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, commended the swift response of the operatives and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any criminal activities. He also appealed to members of the public with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects to assist the police in their investigations.
The command further called on residents to cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and security across communities in the state.
